1. WUTHERING HEIGHTS

   • Two, occassionally Three layered story
     • Mr Lockwood: Unreliable, represents urban man, the contrast between urban and rural. PRONE TO MISCONCEPTIONS
       • the contrast between him and Heathcliff
     • Nelly Dean: was present at events, an observer and participant . BIASED?
       • has to rely on other characters when she isn't present, potential to change when passed on
     • Long and twisted journey, allows Bronte to track character development
       • can include a multigenerational narrative

2. THE BLOODY CHAMBER

   • The Erl King: switches between tenses and point of view
   • TLoTHoL: intertextuality within the story, villains famous lines, Inner voice conveys her pradatory nature
   • Feminist: representation of the spiritual and physical death of women
   • Vignette: Shortness of story increases the impact, makes it poignant
   • "fired by the conviction that human nature is not immutable, that human beings are capable of change" H.Simpson

3. MACBETH

   • IAMBIC PENTAMETER:gives clues to social class, creating a certain rhythms
     • mimic a heartbeat
     • adrenaline/panic
     • drum: militaristic/pride
   • UNEVEN METRE:lack of control
     • Uneveven length of line,lack of rythm
     • just one word/ceasura = significant
     • Enjambment: quickens the pace, creates suspense
     • ACT 5,1: frequent use of ceasura reflects her fragmented mind
