Important
Concepts
- Tonnage Per Axels
TPA=Tonnage/Axels.
Anmerkungen:
- TPA is fixed for each Route. It depends on route.
- Finding required number of locomotives =
Tonnage/TPA/Axels/Locomotive
- Notches similar to Gears. From N1..N8 and Idle.
Anmerkungen:
- In Idle state locomotive generally consumes 3 to 5 Gallons of fuel
- Ways Of Calculating Fuel
- From Event Recorder
Anmerkungen:
- The details of Locomotive are collected from WDL. Then the time for which the locomotive is in particular notch calculated. and then the fuel consumed in each notch is calculated as per burnt chart.
- This has the first Priority
- From Watt Meter
Anmerkungen:
- When fuel is burnt locomotive produces some electricity. The proportion of electricity produced is directly proportional to fuel burnt. So as per watt meter reading(KWH) the fuel consumption is calculated.
- This has the second Priority
- From Guage
Anmerkungen:
- The difference between the electronic fuel gauge at start and end point is used to calculate the fuel consumed
- This has the last priority
- From Estimation
Anmerkungen:
- The fuel consumption is calculated by using event recorder data of similar type of locomotive on that train.
- This is used when the data is not
available from above three methods
- Ranking Of Engineers
Anmerkungen:
- The baseline fuel consumption is calculated from historical data for each route(segment). The
actual fuel used - baseline fuel will give the fuel saved. According to fuel saved the ranking is
decided.
- Fuel Master(FM)
Anmerkungen:
- Fuel Master is a process that calculates the
Fuel for every Train Trip Segment.
- MOP Manger of Operating Practices
- GOAL
Anmerkungen:
- Goal is a monthly target set to achieve
by each engineer or a team based on
car load for a train category and
route
- UP Network
Anmerkungen:
- Network is divided into Regions
Regions are divided into Service Units and service units are further divided into runs

- SOUTHERN OTHER-25
- Run
- It is the route which covered during train trip
- Trip
- Trip is the journey between source and destination
- Segment
- Distance between two specific stations or circ7s where some changes occurred like loading/unloading of
cars, crew change, locomotive shutdown etc
