1. Channel

   • Definition
     • The channel is the medium used to communicate a message affects how the audience will receive the message.  Communication channels can refer to the methods we use to communicate as well as the specific tools we use in the communication process.
   • Channel types
     • There are three basic communication channels: 1) Face-to-face conversations 2) Digital channels (Video or Audio communications, Documents) 3) Written conversations

2. verbal & non-verbal

   • Verbal communication
     • Verbal communication is perhaps the most obvious and understood mode of communication. Verbal communication is the sharing of information between two individuals using words.
   • Non-verbal communication
     • Nonverbal communication is the transmission of messages through eye contact, facial expressions, gestures, posture, and body language.

3. Definition

   • Simple definition
     • Communication is the act of transmitting information from one place, person, or group to another.
   • Complete definition
     • The activity or process of expressing ideas and feelings or of giving people information (Oxford Dictionary). Every communication involves one sender, a message and a recipient. 

4. Effective Communication

   • Definition
     • Effective communication is a process of exchanging ideas, knowledge, or information in the best possible manner. In general, effective communication involves: Sender: The person who initiates the process of communication by sending a message; Receiver: The one to whom the message is to be delivered.
   • Characteristics
     • The most important characteristics to be effective are: Clear Message: The message which the sender wants to convey must be simple and easy to understand.  Complete Message: Communication is the base for decision making. If the information is incomplete, it may lead to wrong decisions. Courtesy: Courtesy and consideration complement each other in effective communications. Courtesy means respecting the receiver’s culture and values. Correctness: Correct grammar and syntax vouch for the increased effectiveness and credibility of your message.
