                    1. Harmonica- Andy Gives Red to play Red-Music symbolises freedom and hope for Red. Red opts not to play it itimmediatly-It means something very personal,precious to Red.-RELUCTANT TO PLAY- meaning something deeper for RED.

                          1. Institutionalization. Lived in fear outside prison, to afraid to move own by himself, ended up comiting suiside.

                            1. Andy's Salvation-Ironic reference by Andy in Bible "You were right. Salvation lay within"

                                1. Freedom-"The moment everyone felt free"- Red. Andy brought even more normality to the prison, not just to his gang but to the whole prison.
                            3. INSTITUIONALIZATION
                              1. Parallel scenes between Brooks and Red
                                1. FORSHADOWING: This scene correlates. Both characters leave prison in fear, afraid of the new uncertain world that are now in. Brooks ends his life and Red begins his.
                                  1. Camera Shots-When both characters leave shawshank, the camera is showing them exiting the gates, Brooks is shot with his body facing the camera and the gates (iron bars) behind him. Conversly Red is shot to with the camera behind him, facing the green, vast landscapes.
                                  2. Brooks: "I'm tired of being afraid all the time. I've decided not to stay"
                                    1. Red: "All I want is to be back where things make sense. Where I don't have to afraid all the time"
                                    2. Setting: Shawshank Prison: Imposing structure shown by panning low lit camera shot. Impsoing structure. Court yard, to landry area to personal cells and finally solitary confinment.
                                      1. Red's Dialogue: "These walls are funny, first you hate em' ten you get used to them. After long enough you depend on them. That's institutionalized"
                                        1. "Hope is a dangerous thing, it can get a man killed"-Red
                                          1. Narration: Get busy livin or get busy dying"
                                          2. RELATIONSHIPS OF CHARACTERS
                                            1. RED AND ANDY
                                              1. HOPE VS INSTITUIONALIZATION
                                                1. Red lives in fear, doubts that he'll survive living in outside world. Andy persuades Red that hope is the thing that keeps him physically and mentally sane in Shawshank. "Hope is the best of things" . It makes him a better man. Andy's determination and sheer will to keep having hope helps him survive the mental and physical torment he suffers in shawshank. He expresses the spirit/power of hope to other prisoners-Beers on roof, libary, helping Tommy pass high school equivlancy test.
                                              2. RED AND BROOKs
                                                1. After Brooks died, correlation grows with Red and Brooks. Both Characters left. Red found freedom. Brooks ended his life and Red started his life. Carried Brooks memory to living freedom because brooks was too frightened and only found freedom through death. 'Brooks was here'-'So was Red'-Shwoing both in same position only that Red managed to break physcological barrier and keep the promise to Andy.
                                                  1. Brooks: "I'm tired of being afriad all the time. Iv'e decided not to stay"
                                                    1. Red: "All I want is things to be back where things make sense. Where I don't have to be afraid all the time
                                                    2. ANDY AND WARDEN
                                                      1. When Andy becomes submissive towards the Warden, makes audience think warden has managed to physcologically break Andy. Tension, doubt concern grows towards Andy when Heywood said Andy asked for 6 feet of rope, making the audience believe Andy is soon going to make a fateful decision like ending his own life. However, we discover Andy manipulated the warden into thinking we was finished shown in the flashback., instead actually escaping.
