1. Pevensey Bay needs protection as Longshore Drift is moving which is increasing the amount of beach material away. Over 50 km of flat land would be flooded and its coastal defences fail. Also its a tourist area therefore there are over 10,000 Properties

2. Location: Pevensey Bay is a low lying area between Eastbourne and Bexhill- On - Sea which is located in East Sussex, Near the English Channel

3. Engineering methods used

   • Beach Reprofilling- During the winter storms, destructive waves move the beach sediments down towards the sea. This makes the upper beach level really low and liable to wave attack
   • Beach Replenishment- Longshore drift in the area means that beach material is constantly being lost. This material is replaced by dredging it from the sea bed and then spraying it back into the beach. This process is carried out by adopted boat.
   • Beach Recycling is when beach material is being moved from West to East. This happens three times a year when the trucks move the material back to the West. However this isn't as sustainable as you will have to carry on this process three times a year

4. It is sustainable because it has reduced the risk of flooding also it can be sustainable in many social, economic and environmental ways EG: Socially it attracts tourism and more people tend to visit due to the beach being there. Also by attracting tourists it increases the economy also by the low costs. Also it is very environmentally sustainable as it causes no damage to its surroundings also it works with nature therefore its more sustainable

   • Conflicts
     • Isn't a good protection for the residents living there and the surrounding people
     • Won't have enough money for the maintenance needed in order to repeat theses processes over and over again
     • However there are some Advantages like More energy but less erosion and the more beach there is the more wave energy will be absorbed also by growing vegetation it is stabilizes the surrounding
