   • Extended to users outside a company
   • Need authentication to access information

5. Virtual Private Network

   • Connection between two or more devices and computers not on same private network
   • data encapsulation and encryption are used to only the proper users and data sessions cross
   • Tunnel device may intervene through the LANs and WANs
   • Protocols
     • Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol
       • Most common, less secure
       • Includes security mechanisms or no additional software or protocols required
       • Port 1723
       • Works with point-to-point protocol and dial up connections
     • Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol
