- Why is it important to form salts?
- Formation of salts causes a great increase in the solubility of the substance
- Potassium, sodium and calcium salts form with acidic drugs
- Sulphate, tartrates with basic drugs
- By forming a salt there is a change in the pH of the diffusion layer therefore allowing the drug to dissolve more easily (increases saturation solubility)
