1. Seen as a ruthless women commited to strive for the greater glory for herself n hisband , her attitude strongly reminiscent of the witches

   • "Come, you spirits...fill me the crown to toe top full""
     • Her soliloquy uses imperatives 'come' fill' giving her speech urgency and determination, ready to fill m with evil, calling for the darkness to hide her plan. foreshadows her death bc seen as SN which god punishes= audience shocked. body imagery
   • "That my keen knife see not the wound it makes"
     • Sosil. accepted darkness. imagery of the knife killing ducan, cunning- unusual for women, prepared to sacrifice her famininity n her humanity as she calls to the spirits to 'unsex me here' - also showing m is not capable and is weak
   • "Plucked my nipple from his boneless gums"
     • Manipulates by degrading him by showing her strength and determination 'boneless'- means no strength and weekness buts till do it -does it no matter what when you promise and uses detailed imagery and rhetorical questions
   • "tis safer to be that which we destroy, than by destruction dwell in doubtful joy"
     • Shows her thoughts trying to keep m in place. - safer to be the victim rather than the murderer- shows she desires power message= can never be happy when murderd. Rhyming couplets not in conflict as structured emphasise M is in conflict

2. In the relationship l.m is in control, m is paralysed by her power, she sees m ability to speculate and think around problems as weekness

   • "Hand, tongue look like thy innocent flower"
     • Simile Tells macbeth to be fake and 'innocent' and 'welcome' D- Share a close bond as meet with 'dearest love', she is full of purpose and discipline her control of the situation is immaculate- got everything planned out emphasis on m that he is confused and meagre
   • "like a poor cat i'th'age"
     • Simile like a cat wants fish but doesn't want to get paws dirty, question m 'courage and manhood l.m refuses to look beyond the present, she wants him to prove his manhood by acting decisivel. M argues but she smashes back by her counter quest. tauting him n forcing him to share her her resolution
   • "my hands are of same colour but ashamed to wear a heat so white"
     • Stronger then M, and diff. as before she invited evil and renounced her femininity- fits with the lack of compassion and humanity she shows, heightens the regret and guilt M is feeling=tearing him apart . she says can be washed- contrasts to the end when she can;'t rub blood off her hands
   • "Scarf up the tender eye of pitiful day "
     • Relationship breaking- mtaphor- unable to share thoughts M brutalised nature is evidence, wants to not let LM see- shelter her- refers B as a snake- still dangerous paranoid is affecting causing tension he appears to want death - to far for LM to control him-struggling

3. In public scenes she acts as the traditional fragile women and is different to M as she can hide her deep,dark desires and not show others

     • She speaks in perfect politeness- knows she insincere therefore reveals how evil and audience recognise her skill, word 'guest' and 'host'are repeated showing she is acting out the advice she gave to her husband to perfection'be the serpent under't'. D is grateful- dramatic irony as plan to kill D

     • Draw attention away from M,- showing how devious she is as again using her gender to her advantage bc women seen as fragile, put emphasis on how weak M is- again tension l.m taking control of situation bc faints- also shows how M is trapped in anguish'multitudinous seas incarnadine - metaphor sea turning red-blood =allows us to identify L.m

4. LM comes near to the end of the play- emphasis her change to audience, her behaviour now is revealed that the past has overwhelmed her-madness setting and atmosphere is gloomy +secrets spilled= tension

   • "to bed, to bed...whats done cannot be undone,to be to bed"
     • Repetition-monosyllabic her inner feelings said in her sleep shows personally strong and hournable to M talking in Pro's - troubled opposite words after D death nature has hit back; evil spirits have done their worse. SH showing SN is negative n perminent damage is done
   • Doctor and gentle women help audience undertsand condition D an GW fully aware of commiting murder but loyal and he says "UN deeds do breed unatural troubles idicates Sh message
   • "wash your hands,put your nightgown on"
     • Almost telling herself
   • "Hell is murkey"
   • "has a light by he continually"
