Hydraulics

1. liquids are virtually incompressible and can flow so the force applied to one point will be transmitted equally to other points in liquid

2. pressure = force / area

   • Pressure is measured in pascals or newton metres
   • force is measured in newtons
   • area is measured in metres squared

3. the force exerted by a hydraulics system depends on the force that is exerted on the system, the area of the cylinder which this force acts on and the area of the cylinder that exerts the force
