Drainage Basins as Open Systems
- Open System - A system containing inputs
and outputs
- Drainage Basins are open systems, as they
contain a number of inputs and outputs.
- Inputs: Precipitation
- Outputs: Transpiration, Evaporation,
Channel Flow
- Closed System - A system that does not contain inputs or
outputs. Instead, everything in the system will travel
around the system indefinitely
- The Water Cycle as a whole is a close system. This
is because no water is created or leaves Earth.
