The purpose of these interviews was to further develop our knowledge of how the SLT (Senior Leadership Team) handle day to day as well as extremely important tasks. We interviewed a total of 3 SLT members, this included; Mr Watson (Assistant head of the school, Head of Sixth Form) Mr Twist (Deputy Head) and finally Mr Isaacs (School Business Manager)

We asked the 3 leaders a total of twelve questions, 6 based on management and 6 based on leadership. These are the questions we asked:

1) Do you see yourself as a manager who manages a company or a leader who inspires your team to achieve your vision? Please explain your decision

Mr Twist – He sees himself as more of a leader, however, he’s very hands on as in he also manages his staff but focuses more on making sure that the people in his team work well together. His best skill in terms of leadership/management is developing teams that will work well together and which will achieve high levels of success.

2) Do you acknowledge and celebrate individual’s success? How?

Mr Twist – He thinks it’s important to acknowledge individual success and this motivates people to perform even better, however it’s important not to over-praise, this could lead to arrogance and less effort put into individual’s work.

3) Do you think the hierarchical leadership structure at school has helped or hindered your ability to lead?

Mr Twist – He believes everyone has an equal voice, the school doesn’t follow a hierarchal structure
