ballistic informations
- 12 shell casings
two of them were recovered close to Wilson's car (conforming with his testimony about firing two shots there)
remaining
10 casings were recovered adjacent/behind to the path that Wilson said
Brown took when charging toward him (consistent with Wilson firing a
series of shots as Brown rushed toward him, all the while backpedaling
to try and increase the distance)
- Mr. Brown's body was about 153 feet east of Officer Wilson's car
- Brown's blood was about 25 feet east of his body
proofs that Brown continued to move closer to the officer after being hit by an inital string of bullets
physical evidence
- tangential injury on Brown's right thumb
- "soot" in the wound
consistent with a shot from close range
places Brown's right hand within 6 to 9 inches of the barrel of Wilson's firearm
why should Brown have been forced by Wilson to have his right hand in a position where it was close to the gun and inside Wilson's police car?
- examiners found Brown's DNA on Wilson's firearm, outside the driver's door, outside the left passenger door, inside the driver's door, on the upper left thigh of Officer Wilson's pants and shirt and also on the interior left front door panel of Wilson's car
- on the other hand he didn't find Wilson's DNA on Brown's shirt
- two shots were fired by Officer Wilson, one bullet was found lodged in the driver's door
- various wounds to Brown's arms, upper torso and head
the ME (medical examiner) testified that if Brown was bent over, that would be consistent with the entry to the head wounds, although he also said that he could not say for certain what position Brown was in the time he received the wound
the forensic expert (FE) hired by the Brown family found that Brown's head was down when the shots were fired
- there were no wounds found from the back
with regard to the arms, there was only one injury that was from the back (right forearm)
ME indicated that it is extremely difficult to identify the position of the arms from bullet wounds, because you have a lot of mobility within that arm and it can be in a lot of scenarios
- positive finding from the toxicology report conducted on Brown
positive from cannabinoids, THC (marijuana) in a concentration level that is relatively small
FE: could cause abnormal behavior, but usually doesn't
- a medical examination indicated that Officer Wilson had some swelling and redness on his face
- so far as I can see there are no significant inconsistencies between the physical evidence and Wilson's testimony
it aligned with Wilson's testimony
- the physical evidence is important because, unlike witness testimony, it doesn't lie and can't be accused of bias
- FBI is looking into possible civil rights violations arising from the shooting, investigating regardless of the public attention surrounding the matter
