Denudation occurs by weathering and erosion

weathering: is the breakdown and decay of rocks that are exposed to the weather 2 types:-mechanical+chemical weathering

erosion: is the breakdown od rocks and the removal of particles as a reasult caused by:- moving water(rivers+seas),movingice(glaciers),moving air(wind) rock particles that have been broken down are transported and deposited elsewhere

WEATHERING

MECHANICAL WEATHERING

causes rock to be broken up into smaller pieces most common type of mechanical weathering is freeze thaw

freeze thaw: is the break up of rock by frost action occurs where there is percipitation and where temperature rises and falls below 0

chemical weathering

occurs when rocks decay or dissolve because of chemical change carbonation is an example of chemical weathering

carbonation: rain collects carbon dioxide as it passes through atmosphere mix togeter turning into a weak carbonic acid limestone contains calciun carbonate which reacts with acid rain and slowely dissolves it

limestone permable so acid rain can easily seep through rock effects of carbonation best seen in karst landscape(areas of limestone) eg. the burren co. clare

(on top of carbonated limestone pavement)
