Chapter 4 - Cells exchange materials

What is tissue/extracellular fluid?

What is homoeostasis?

What are phospholipid molecules?

Describe the structure of a phospholipid molecule

What are channel proteins?

List the 4 functions of the cell membrane

List the 4 types of membrane proteins

What is a passive process?

What is an active process?

List the three types of transport across the cell membrane

What kinds of processes does each type of transport use?

Briefly describe diffusion

What is the concentration gradient?

What is net diffusion?

Does oxygen diffuse into or out of cells? Why?

Does Carbon Dioxide diffuse into or out of the cell? Why?

What is osmosis?

Describe the movement that occurs in osmosis

What is osmotic pressure?

What happens in Carrier-Mediated transport?

What are the 2 types of carrier mediated transport?

Does simple diffusion move with or against the concentration gradient

Does Facilitated/Active diffusion move with or against the concentration gradient?

What is vesicular transport?

What is endocytosis?

What is exocytosis?

What is the difference between pinocytosis and phagosytosis?
