Basic terminology:

circuit mean path where from data can travel from source to destination.

packet mean where single message is broken into small of block of data is known as a packet.

switching process of sending data along the different path is known as switching.

Switching:

switching can be done by two method.

connection less ( no acknowledgement)

connection oriented ( acknowledgement).

Circuit Switching:

there is a dedicated communication path between the two station (end to end).

the connection is oriented.

the path is connected sequence of limit between network nodes.

communication via circuit switching has 3 parts.

circuit establishment

data transfer

circuit disconnected

the switch must known

route to destination of allocated bandwidth to establish a connection

Packet Switching:

Data are transmitted into short packet. and longer message are split into series of packets.

packet contain

use data (portion)

control information.

control info contain

routing (addressing information), so a to be rated to be intended destination.

recall the content of an IP header.

store and forward packet are received, stored briefly passed to next node.
