Symbolism in Jane Eyre

Seite 1

'a fervent, a solemn passion is conceived in my heart; it leans to you, draws you to my centre and spring of life, wrap my existence about you–and, kindling in pure, powerful flame, fuses you and me in one.'

"it is madness in all women to let a secret love kindle within them, which, if unreturned and unknown, must devour the life that feeds it; and, if discovered and responded to, must lead, ignis-fatuus-like, into miry wilds whence there is no extrication.”

'it is because I am quite insane — quite insane: with my veins running fire, and my heart beating faster than I can count its throbs.'

'You are cold, because you are alone: no contact strikes the fire from you that is in you.'
