Swansong- Christopher Bruce.
Swansong is about human rights/prisoner of conscience. The dance has three main dancers in the choreography. Two guards and a prisoner/victim. The guards wear green trousers (to show that they are in a hot place.) and a sandy coloured shirt with pockets. They also have black hats, wear jazz shoes and carry around a walking stick/ cane.
The prisoner/victim wears a red T-shirt which shows fear and anger. He also wears blue jeans which restrict him from doing movements to show the lack of freedom he has. The prisoner/victim does his moves around a chair which suggests that he is in prison or has been captured. The prisoner is on the stage all throughout the dance which shows that he has no way of escaping the prison/that he has no rights. He also does three solos which show that he has been forced into this alone.
The guards are together throughout the dance which shows that they have control of the prisoner/victim. This is also shown when the two guards force/make the prisoner/victim copy their tap moves while he is on the chair. Throughout the the play the guards exit the stage on the right which could suggest that there is a door which the prisoner cant get out of. The light that the prisoner keeps referring to represents his freedom. It indicates that there is a window in this cell. Escaping from the window is his only chance of freedom, but the level of the light shows that it is hard to reach for freedom.
