Mitosis/M

• -process that divides the nucleus containing the replicated DNA
• -15% of cell's life span
• -4 stages
• * prophase:"before"; replicated DNA uncoils; where the cell's chromatin tightens or condenses into chromosomes (held together by centromere); centrosomes duplicates and move to opposite poles( centrioles form the mitosis spindle; animal cell-have centrioles; plant cell- no centrioles;
• * metaphase:"change/middle"; chromosomes align; the sister chromatids are pulled by motor proteins along the spindle apparatus toward the center of the cell and line up in the middle;
• * anaphase:"opposite"; chromosomes separate; the cell's chromatids are pulled apart;
• * telophsse:"across"; chromosomes recoil; nucleus reforms; mitosis spindle breaks down; cytokenisis begins; chromsomes arrive at the poles; animal cell-"pinched" in half; plant cell-"cut" in half
