Establish Your Goal Motivation is important. Set your self a target within your range, but set it high.
Practice. This almost goes without saying. Familiarize yourself with past SAT exams. Get used to the format. Time yourself. Make the experience a normal one.
Time is a factor. Manage your time correctly. If you have 60 questions in 60 minutes, work out the average time per question. Try and allow a few minutes at the end for revision.
Be Confident Your attitude can change the outcome of the test. Go in positive. Believe in what you can do.
Read widely. The passages could be about anything. Expose yourself to print. Newspapers, magazines, trade-journals, Gothic-fiction, obituaries...whatever. Then you won't be alarmed by the subject matter. (Best not to begin this the week before the test).
Beware of the trick question. It's a comprehension test. Some questions are designed to be confusing. It may seem like there is more than one correct answer. There is only one.
One answer is correct. That means the others are wrong. Use logic to eliminate the incorrect answers. Whatever you are left with must be correct. It worked for Sherlock Holmes.
Read the question, then read the passage. For some people, this works. You know what to look for.
Read the passage, then read the question. For others, this works better. By absorbing everything, you are less likely to miss something.
Read the question. Pause. Once you read the question, take a moment to think. You may have the answer in your head before you look at the choices. Then you simply confirm what you already know.
We all make mistakes. Practice. Make mistakes. Then learn from your mistakes. How did you fail? Was it a lack of knowledge? Was it a process? Address your mistake. Are you likely to make it again?
Always read the small print. In the introduction to the passage lies a clue. In italics. It will tell you what the passage is about before you even read it. Never look a gift horse...etc
Vocabulary is important (but not that important). Having a strong vocabulary is useful. But its significance to your SAT score has been reduced in recent years. If your time could be spent more usefully practicing something else, then do so.
Don't worry. Time spent worrying is time you could be doing something more useful.
Get to work. Stop looking for short-cuts in posts like these. There are no short-cuts.
Good luck. It is multiple choice, but try to eliminate the need for luck.
