Frage Antworten
What is meant by Salvation? To be saved. Christians believe that salvation is needed to re-establish a right relationship with God which was spoilt by Adam and Eve
What is meant by INCARNATION and how does it link to SALVATION? Incarnation - literally 'enfleshed' meaning God became human in the person of Jesus and holds both full humanity and full divinity. Jesus has to be human so we can relate to him and has to be divine to have the power to save us
How is Jesus' death seen as a sacrifice? Jesus paid the price for human sin - OT idea of making sacrifice on day of atonement. Jesus is the new 'lamb' - the lamb of God. Jesus pays the ransom need to free us from sin Jesus' death atones for our sin Thus we can again be united with God. Where Adam went 'wrong' Jesus puts 'right'
What is meant by Grace? What is meant by Actual Grace? What is meant by Sanctifying Grace? Grace is God's help in our lives Actual Grace is God's help to do good actions in our every day moments Sanctifying Grace is God's help received in the sacraments - it make us more holy and brings us closer to God. NOTE (Only Catholics believe in actual and sanctifying grace - but all Christians believe in Grace as God's help in our lives)
HOW CAN THERE BE A HELL IF GOD IS OMNIBENEVOLENT? God allows human beings free will because God is all good. God does not send anyone to hell - we send ourselves to hell. If a person does not want God's love or forgiveness, God will not force it. Hell is the absence of God - we can choose to be without God - God allows us that freedom
WHAT DO FUNDAMENTAL CHRISTIANS SUCH AS EVANGLICALS BELIEVE ABOUT SALVATION? Faith alone saves us. A person must accept Jesus as their Lord and saviour. You can only be saved by Jesus This is supported by Jesus saying 'I am the way, the truth and the life; no one can come to the father except through me.' This is an EXCLUSIVE APPROACH.
What do Catholic Christians believe about WHO can be SAVED? All people have the potential to be saved. Even non Christians can be saved - by their actions. A persons actions shows they recognise Christ even though they do not 'know it' explicitly. This is an inclusive approach Karl Rahner called it the 'anonymous Christian
What do Liberal Christians such as Church of England protestants believe about Salvation. All people can be saved - regardless of belief. Christianity is just one of many relevant ways to come to know the ultimate God. Jesus is just one road to salvation - a persons loving action is the most important thing. This is a PLURALIST approach supported by John Hick
HOW DOES CELEBRATING THE MASS BRING SALVATION The Mass is an anamnesis - which means a making present again the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross. Jesus' death is an atonement for sin and makes us at one with God At Mass we meet Jesus completely in the Eucharist At Mass we share in the death and Resurrection of Jesus Pope Francis said '“Celebrating Mass is to enter into Jesus' passion, death, resurrection and ascension. When we go to Mass, it is as if we were going to Calvary, it's the same,"
