How to identify them with the 5 W's? 5 W's : *Who wrote or produced it? *When? *Where? * Why? (Purpose) *For whom? /the intended audience of the source?
>NON-TEXTUAL SOURCES< *Source that is not written *The most common are: photographs, cartoons, posters, statistics or tabular sources, graphs, maps and paintings (or photographs of paintings).
>>Photographs<< *Used to record an event, or document how someone looked, many of these photographs the subjects have been posed and, whether we realize it or not, neutral and has a particular reason for taking it.
*Context important to undersatnd *Huge value for historians *Document particular events better than many other sources.
>>Cartoons<< *Most common *Challenging to understand. and if you do not know the context of the cartoon then you may not be able to understand its message.
*Not explain the full reality of events. *Use symbols to represent the characters or countries they have drawn. *Personal view of events
>>Posters, graphs and paintings<< *Details about these sources are who made them and for what purpose *There are many different types of posters
*Graphs appropriate to include this type of source,dealing with any economic theme. *Maps and paintingsmake a political point rather than simply express a geographical
>TEXTUAL SOURCES< *Too numerous vut here are some: books, letters, treaties, diaries, newspapers, magazine articles, diplomatic documents, telegrams, written records of interviews, poetry and speeches.
