At Pater Aeneas audito nomine Turni
1. But Father Aeneas, having heard the name of Turnus
Deserit et muros et summas deserit arces
1. Deserted both the walls and the greatest citadels
Praecipitatque moras omnis, opera omnia rumpit
1. He thrust aside the delays of everything, and broke off all his tasks
Laetitia exsultans horrendumque intonat armis
1. Rejoicing with happiness and thundering with his arms frighteningly
Quantus Athos aut quantus Eryx aut ipse coruscis
Cum fremit ilicibus quantus gaudetque nivali
vertice se attollens pater Appenninus ad auras
1. He was as great as Mt Athos or as great as Mt. Eryx
2. Or as great as Father Appenninus himself, when he howls
3. With his quivering oak trees and rejoices in the snowy peak
4. Lifting himself up to the breezes
Iam vero et Rutuli certatim et Troes et omnes
Convertere oculos Itali
1. Now indeed both the Rutulians and the Trojans
  1. And all the Italians turned their eyes eagerly
Quique alta tenebant moenia quique imos pulsabant ariete muros
1. Both those who held the high walls and those beating the bottom of the walls with a ram
Armaque deposuere umeris, stupet ipse Latinus
1. They put their weapons down onto their shoulders. Latinus himself was amazed
2. Ingentes, genitos diversis partibus orbis
  1. That the huge men, born from different parts of the world
Inter se coisse viros et cernere ferro
