Abraham Maslow proposed that all people seek to
satisfy 5 basic kinds of need to motivate behaviour
argues that lowest level of need must be met b4 a person will
strive to satisfy needs that are higher up the hierarchy such as
self-esteem need
lowest level of unmet needs is the prime
motivator of behaviour if and when this level is
satisfied needs at the next highest level
motivates behaviour
in global economy important for managers to
realize citizens of different countries might differ
in need they seek to satisfy through work
in poorer countries with low standards of
living, physiological & safety needs more
likely to be prime motivators of behaviour
As countries become wealthier
& have higher standards of
living likely that needs related to
personal growth &
accomplishment become
important as motivators of
behaviours
