Children are psychologically different to from adults based on their behaviour

some theories assume that children's development happens in stages e.g. Freud

some theories assume that bad early experiences can have a negative impact on adults behaviour later in life

A main assumption therefore of the developmental approach is that cognitive, emotional and behavioural development is an ongoing process and that such changes result from an interaction of nature and nurture.
