3. Identify the author and theme of the book of Matthew.	The disciple Matthew is the likely author. Theme: Jesus the Messiah, King of the Jews
4. What was one of Matthew’s major purposes?	To prove to Jewish reading that Jesus was the Messiah
5. Give three examples of how Matthew showed that Jesus was the Messiah.	Riding on a donkey, took up our infirmities and carried our diseases, virgin birth.

8. How did Mark help his mostly Gentile audience understand his account of Jesus the Jew, who lived in a Jewish culture?	Mark explained Jewish customs and many Aramaic words.
9. What was Luke’s main theme?	Jesus, the Savior of all
10. How do the purposes of Matthew and Luke differ?	Matthew's purpose was to prove Jesus was the Jewish Messiah who fulfilled the OT prophecies, but Luke's purpose was to present Jesus as the universal Savior. Matthew included a universal aim (28:19-20), but his emphasis was on Israel's Messiah.
