- 1Direct RealismThe immediate objects of our perception are mind-independent objects. What we perceive is what is there.
- 2Indirect RealismThe immediate objects of our perception are mind-dependent objects. They are caused by, and represent mind-independent objects.
- 3Mind-independentDoesn't rely on our perceptions to exist.
- 4Veridical PerceptionAccurate perception.
- 5External WorldThe world outside my mind.
- 6Mind-dependentThings that rely on the mind to exist.
- 7CausationThings that make other things happen i.e. Cause and effect.
- 8Sense DataThe things you are immediately aware of; Mental Images or representations of what is perceived; The content of perceptual experience.
If sense data exist, they are private and mind-dependent. - 9Primary QualitiesQualities that are 'utterly inseparable' from the object, regardless of the changes it goes through. Unless the object is destroyed.
- 10Secondary QualitiesQualities that have that ability to produce sense data in the perceiver. These qualities can, and will, change as the object goes through changes.
- 11ScepticismThe view that it is impossible to be certain about anything, our senses are not trustworthy and it is impossible to believe that reality is what we perceive it as.
- 12IdealismThe view that the immediate objects of perception are mind-dependent objects.
- 13SolipsismThe view that you are the only real, existing object and that other objects only exist when, and because, you perceive them.
