Why is Pliny the younger a good source? (Six reasons) -Eye witness -well-educated -Knew about natural history -He could write about it intelligently -He heard of all events from his uncle's travelling companions. -He wrote down an account of events when it was still fresh in his mind.
Why is Pliny the Younger a biased source? -He has history in mind when writing the letter. -He wants his uncle to look courageous in history. -He doesn't question his uncle's decisions. -He wasn't there when his uncle died - he has to trust the account of his companions.
Where did Pliny live? In the Bay of Naples - Misenum.
Why was Pliny in a good position of where he lived? He lived close enough to the volcano to have a good view of what was happening but far enough away so that he would not be harmed from it.
Who was Pliny referring to in his account of Vesuvius? His uncle Pliny the Elder.
What happened to Pliny's uncle? Pliny the elder died whilst trying to save his friend from the volcano who had sent him an urgent letter pleading for help from a friend who lived at the foot of Vesuvius and her only escape was by sea. What killed him was the toxic gasses in the air emitted from the volcano
