Pregunta Respuesta
What does Avogadro's number represent? (6.02 X 10 ^23) It represents the number of carbon atoms in 12g of carbon. One mole of any type of particle contains this number in particles whether they're atoms, ions or molecules.
The mass of one mole (1 mol of atoms of an element) is equal to what? It's equal to its relative atomic mass in grams. EG/ 1 mol of hydrogen atoms has a mass of 1g and 1 mol of carbon atoms has a mass of 12g.
What is the equation that shows how to work out the number of moles of an element? number of moles= mass(g) / relative atomic mass
The relative formula mass of a substance is the sum of all the atoms in its formula. Use Methane CH4 as your example. CH4= 16 (12 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1)
the mass of one mole of a compound is equal to its relative atomic mass in grams. So, what would be the mass of Methane (CH4) - use your answer from the previous card to help you. 16 grams. This is the equation shows how to work out the number of moles of a compound: Number of Moles= Mass (g) / Relative formula mass.
The next section of these cards is on moles in solution. ENJOY
What can the concentration of a solute in a solution be measured in? g dm ^-3 OR mol dm ^-3
Moles to mass calculations? mass (g) = relative atomic mass X number of moles. mass (g) = relative formula mass X number of moles.
What is the mass of 0.1 mol of oxygen molecules, 02? (relative atomic mass of oxygen is 16) Relative formula mass of 02 = 16+16=32 mass of 0.1 mol = 32 X 0.1= 3.2g
Solution calculation? Concentration (moldm-3)= moles of solute (mol) / volume of solution (dm^3)
What does Mol dm^-3 stand for? Moles per cubic decimetre.
Conversions - how do you convert between g dm^-3 and moldm^-3 ? divide the concentration by the relative formula mass.
Conversions - how do you convert between moldm^-3 and g dm^-3? multiply the concentration by the relative formula mass.
