- 1LAN (local)The most common. located at one site (a single building or several buildings in proximity).
- 2WAN (Wide)For organisations that may have several branches (i.e. banks, college/university campuses) For all to access the data source.
- 3MAN (Metro)Usually covers a network within the same city. Its coverage is between a LAN and WAN.
- 4PAN (Personal)Personal area network. Set up privately for a few people to connect a small number of devices together. Examples = phone to a car audio system for hands free/ PC to a phone/ laptop to a portable printer - maybe tradesmen.
- 5VPNVirtual Private Network: two physical networks connected by another connection generally the internet.
