28. Some types of mental processing are more challenging than others.

- 1Whenever you're clicking around on a website, you're going through 3 different types of mental processes. These are know as loads.1. Cognitive: the things you're thinking about or remembering.
2. Visual: the things you are seeing on the screen.
3: Motor: mouse movements, button clicking...that sort of thing. - 2This is Fitt's Law that can mathematically determine motor loads.It makes about as much sense to me as it does to you. It's just a fancy way of finding out how big or how close to make a target easier to hit
- 3—That's what that whole Fitt's thing is about. Make people move less, and think less to hit a target. This decreases certain mental loads, and can make the experience better for the user.
- 4There is no example 2. I can show you that equation again if you want.The simple fact is this: Keep in mind the mental processes your user has to go through. Trade off one load for another. More movement for less thinking, or less visuals for faster movement.
