Fichas del conjunto (7)
- 1What are the two nerves involved with controlling heart rate?Vagus nerve
Sympathetic nerve - 2What is the function of the vagus nerve? To release acetycholine next o the cells of the SAN to slow heart rate
- 3What is the function of the sympathetic nerve?Releases noradrenaline which makes heart rate faster
- 4What are the two drugs used to adjust a patient's heart rate?Digoxin
Propranol - 5What does digoxin do? How?Increases the force of cardiac contractions. It inhibits the Na-K pump in the plasma membrane of the muscle cells. As a result Na ions collect in the cell, along with Ca ions to increase the force of contractions
- 6What does propranol do? How?Reduces the persons' heart rate. It reduces the effects of noradrealin on the SAN
- 7What are the possible side effects of propranol?Angina
