SPEED AND VELOCITY
Fichas del conjunto (8)
- 1What is speed and velocity?How fast you are going
- 2What are the units of measure?m/s
- 3How is velocity different to speed?Velocity, as a vector, has magnitude and direction. It is a measure of the rate at which an object changes position. To describe a car's velocity you would have to state it as 70 miles per hour, south.
- 4What is the formula for average speed?average speed = distance travelled / time taken
- 5What is acceleration?How quickly velocity is changing. Can be change in speed or direction.
- 6What are the units of measure for acceleration?m/s 2 (REMEMBER THE SQUARED BIT!!!)
- 7What is the formula for acceleration?Acceleration = Change in velocity / Time Taken. final velocity - initial velocity / time taken. (v - u) / t
- 8How do you calculate distance travelledDistance = average speed × time
However, you need to know the average speed to use it. If the speed changes from one speed to another, you use this equation: d = (u + v) ÷ 2 × t
and
Time = distance ÷ average speed t = (2 × d) ÷ (u + v)
