Mechanism of Action
- Bacteriostatic
- Affects bacterias ability to synthesize their own folic acid
Indications
- Used for UTIs, pneumocystitis, & upper respiratory tract infection
- Effective against gram-positive and gram-negative
Adverse Effects
- thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis, hemolytic & aplastic anemia
- Steven Johnsons syndrome
- Diarrhea
Contraindications
- Anyone allergic to it
- Pregnant women @ term
- Children under 2
