          1. a pattern of one stressed syllable followed by two unstressed syllables
            1. E.g. HALF a league, HALF a league
        3. 'Charge for the guns!' he said: Into the valley of Death
          1. Commander told them & they had to obey even though they were running towards their death
        4. Verse 2
          1. Some one had blunder'd
            1. miscommunication - the army had charged at the wrong time
            2. 'Theirs not to make reply, Theirs not to reason why, Theirs but to do and die.'
              1. The 'ordinary' soldiers couldn't question authority
