1. Facts

   • Persian
   • petty store owner
   • has wife and daughter, Dorri
   • does not speak English well, needs Dorri as translator, hence (daher) is isolated
   • probably follows a traditional Iranian lifestyle

2. Challenges

   • 1. Came to America to live the American Dream
   • 2, Has had experience that makes it necessary (in his view) to buy a gun
   • 3. Has to hire someone to fix the lock on the door of his shop. Dorri is not there when Daniel comes to do the job, so Farhad hat to communicate with him himself
   • 4. is faced with his vandalized shop and the fact that the insurance company (Versicherungsunternehmen) refuses to cover the damage because Farhad did not heed Daniel´s advice about fixing the door.
   • 5. has to come to terms (muss sich arrangieren) with the fact that he shot a child, even though miraculously no harm was done (he does not know about the blanks).

3. Choices

   • 1. Worked hard to build up hislife, but has not integrated himself into American society
   • 2. Due to negative experiences he distrusts all strangers (accuses the gun seller of cheating him, finally Dorri sends him out and buys blanks).
   • 3. Deep-rooted distrust and insecurity break trough; he accuses Daniel of cheating hihm and starts insulting, not understanding what Daniel is saying)
   • 4. seems to resign at first, but then looks for Daniel´s adress on the old bill and drives there, threatens Daniel with the gun and accidentally shoots Lara when she throws herself at Daniel in order to protect him with the magic cloak.
   • 5. believes that Lara is his angel who prevented him from becoming a murderer
