Aesthetics: The LifeStraw has a matte finish in light and dark blue. There are also no signs of any joints between the the plastics to add the the sleek design.
Cost: Compared to other water purification methods, LifeStraw is fairly expensive, however this is justified due to its multiple use aspect as well as it using different physical components. It retails for around £20
Customer: LifeStraw can be used by two types of people; people who like to go into the wilderness for leisure and want an easier way to drink water instead of carrying many water bottles/tablets, however it can also serve people in developing countries who do not have a clean water supply nearby.
Ergonomics/Anthropometrics: The diameter of LifeStraw is only 25mm. Having looked at anthropometric data from http://www.ergonomics4schools.com/lzone/tools.htm the maximum grip diameter of the 50 percentile (the most common measurement) for males is 52mm, whilst it is 48mm for females. This means that the torch can easily fit in the grip of the user, which is further proven as the 5 percentile is 45mm (males), 43mm (females) and so the torch should fit comfortably in almost everyone's hands or even in a pencil grip hold. It is also very easy to use with the user only having to suck up water when the filter is submerged into unfiltered water.
Safety: The product itself is very safe with no sharp corners or ways to injure the use, and with the nature of the product, it is also very safe filtering a 'minimum 99.9999% of waterborne bacteria, 99.9% of waterborne protozoan parasites, and filters to 0.2 microns' and 'removes E. Coli, Giardia and Cryptosporidium oocysts, and many other waterborne contaminants.'
Size: The product is very portable with a length of 225mm and diamter of 25mm. This means that it is very easy to store as well as carry around when it is not needed.
Function: LifeStraw is used to filter out bacteria, salt and parasites which it does so effectively. It can filter up to 1000 litres before it needed to be replaced as the filter may not fully filter out the water.
Material/Manufacture: The outer shell is made from ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) which can be injection molded into shape. Plastic could have been chosen over metal as it is cheaper but there is metal type also for sale which is more durable.
