Long term responses
1. Buildings were re-built
2. People recovered from their injuries
3. water/gas pipes re-placed
4. Roads were re-built
Predict, protect and prepare
1. Buildings built further apart to avoid the domino effect in the future
2. High rise buildings were built with flexible steel frames
3. rubber blocks were put under bridges to absorb shocks
