cell to organism unit 2.4
  1. In a complex organism, there are many more cells than there are tissues, many more tissues than organs, and many more organs than systems
    1. tissues
    2. In the human body there are four types of tissues: *elepthial tissue *connective tissue *muscle tissue *nerve tissue
      1. epithelial tissue is made up of cells that form surfaces of other organs .your skin has an outer layer of epithelial tissue called the epidermis. epithelial tissue also lines the surface of the digestive system, repiratory system, reproductive system and the mouth
        1. connective tissue holds and supports other tissue in the body e.g. fat, bones, cartilage, ligament and tendon.
          1. tendon
          2. muscle tissue is a specialsised tissue that can contract, becoming shorter and fatter. biceps are themuscles that contract to pull your arm up, triceps contract to pull the arm back down as muscles cant expand.
            1. biceps & triceps
            2. nerve tissue can send electrical signals around the body. the electrical signals are managed in the brain by nerve tissue and passed down the spinal cord to the body. thousands of nerve cells are grouped together to form your nerve.
            3. organs are structures that contain atleast two different types of tissues that work together to complete a task e.g. stomach, liver, heart.
              1. heart
              2. organs cant work independently so they are organised so they can work together too complete a task e.g. digestive system, reproductive system, respiratory system, nervous system and skeletal system.
                1. organ systems
                    1. there are two types of vascular tissues
                      1. XYLEM carries water from the roots. they are long thin tubes with strong walls to help support the plant.
                        1. xylem
                        2. PHLOEM carries glucose from the leaves to all other plant parts.
                          1. phloem
                        3. the main organs of a plant are its roots, stem and leaves. these organs work together to bring together the raw materials required for photosynthesis.
                          1. leaf
