1. What is an organisation?

   • Definition and purpose?
     • "A toll people use to co-ordinate actions to obtain something they desire or value".
   • Structure? Reltionships?
     • Organization Structure: "The formal system of task and authority relationships that control how people coordinate their actions and use resources to achieve organisational goals"         Task relationships "Who do we want/need to achieve the goals?"     Authority Relationships, Decision making and control within organisation.
   • Types of structure?
     • Tall organisation: Many levels of hierachy relative to its size. Flat organisation: Very few levels in hierachy relative to its size

2. Control

   • Direct supervision
     • Managers shape and mold behaviour of staff, direct approach
   • Standard operating procedures
     • Standardised behaviour, regular and reliable.
   • Information technology
     • Computerised platform for decision making.
   • Culture
     •                Set of shared values and norms that organisation members share, with eachother and outsiders, shaped by management
