Prototyping

Prototyping

1. Process

   • 1. Define Prototype
   • 2. Plan Prototype
   • 3. Prototyping monitoring and iteration

2. It is...

   • A method...
     • Useful throughout the whole design process
     • That can be applied to design challenges at different scales
     • That enables to “fail earlier and often, to succeed sooner”
   • A way to...
     • Generate new and better ideas
     • Move from abstract to concrete
     • Understand and improve an idea before implementation
     • Engaging stakeholders to generate and validate ideas

3. Helps to...

   • Unlock creativity
   • Manage risk
   • Generate new ideas

4. It is not...

   • Piloting:
     • Tests only a single hypothesis
     • High cost
     • Failure and risk are designed out
     • Does not generate new ideas
   • Time Intensive
   • Repetitive

5. Prototyping Tools

   • Paper
     • Way of gaining insight and trying out key elements of your ideas and best of all it’s quick and cheap
   • Desktop
     • Materials that are quick and easy to assemble and use, such as Lego or cardboard
   • Personas
     • Characters created to represent key types of users or staff members who are important to your idea or service
   • Storyboarding
     • Map out the different ways we wish our idea or service to respond to different scenarios or situations.
   • Roleplay and freeze frame
     • Explore specific relationships or interactions that are important to your service or idea
   • Touchpoint
     • Experiential interfaces between users and a service or a brand
   • Experience
     • Modelling as close to a real version of your idea or service as possible, and then enabling people to go through an experience of that service or idea.
