UNIT 2: The Engineering World

1. Four Rs

   • Reduce
     • Reduse the size of a product to minimize materials you use, for example mobile phones and ebooks
   • Reuse
     • Clothes to charity shop
     • Scrap car parts reused to fix other cars
   • Recycle
     • Melting down old bottles and making a new bottles
     • Melting metal to make new metal
   • Recover
     • Recover the energy from other products, making a compost heap and use the energy.
     • Recover left over food and use it as dog food

2. CNC Machinery

   • Coolant
     • This is used so the material being cut is not heated and distorted, it also keeps friction down so the cutting tool lasts longer.
   • Electronics
     • The machine is electronicly powered, this is for a faster movement, better accuracy and also it does not run out of energy

3. Optical Fibres

   • Glass
     • The optical fibres are made out of very thing glass, they are that thin they are glassed as glass fibres
   • Communication
     • They are used for conecting to the internet and making phone calls.

4. Robots

   • Servant
     • The name robot is originated from the old words 'human slave'
