  1. Designed to organise useful information to present to managers as summaries, charts and reports.
    1. Help managers make strategic decisions. doesn't make decision it's self.
    2. Creates links between sets of inter-related data
      1. Collate Data + Produce reports
        1. Can inter-connect various systems or modules and collate data from multiple datbases
          1. Modularisation of different sub-systems means more sub-systems can be added later or taken away if needed. This means the system can be built upon to make new reports and new methods of collating data can be created.
        2. The information manager ensures the right data is collected to create needed information
          1. Also creates standard reports
          2. Tasks
            1. Monitoring budget, cash-flows and sales
              1. Identify trends
                1. Gather info on other organisations
                  1. Identify demographic of customers
                  2. The MIS needs to be analysed so that is meets the requirement of the organisation. It's life cycle can be 2-4 years
