1. Letter

   • Dear Sir/Madam = Yours faithfully
   • Dear (Name) = Yours sincerely
   • Your address on the right, theirs on the left
     • Date goes under your address
   • To end an informal letter = "Best wishes"

2. Report

   • Impersonal style
     • Non-emotive
   • Split into clear sections
     • Sub-headings
   • Factual style
   • Finish with concluding recommendations
     • What can be improved?
   • Brackets for extra information
   • First paragraph is an overview
   • LIE - Just be reasonably realistic
   • Balanced view
   • Mostly in present tense
   • Conclusion can be short but should make a clear point

3. Review

   • Clear title of what is being reviewed
   • Back up opinions with examples from the film
   • Refer to other films/genres/directors/actors
   • Finish with a star rating
   • Touches of humour for entertainment
   • Final paragraph sums up views
     • Would you recommend?
   • Technical vocab

4. Speech

   • First person to address the listeners
     • Personal pronouns
   • Connectives to logically order points
   • Rhetorical questions
     • Sometimes answer it for effect
   • Short paragraph can give the central point
   • Highly opinionated
   • Repetition of key phrases can be memorable
   • Lists of three
   • To adults = "Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen"
   • To teenagers/children = "Fellow peers"
   • End with "Thank you for listening"

5. Leaflet

   • Box and caption where a picture would go
     • More than one image to show consistency
   • Chatty style
   • Eye-catching headline
     • Techniques
   • Connectives to link ideas
   • Sections with separate headings

6. Article

   • Short, eye-catching headline
   • Quotes from sources and experts
   • Anecdotes
   • Link conclusion to introduction
   • First paragraph introduces main ideas
   • Emotive vocab
     • Finish strongly

7. Travelogue
