      1. toward the egg at the base of the archegonium
        fusion of an egg and sperm produce a diploid zygote
Meiosis and production of spores
zygote at base of the archegonium
1. develops into seta
  1. topped by a capsule containing a sporangium
    1. haploid cells in the sporangium
      1. spores produced by meiosis
        genetically variable
      2. when the spores are ripe the capsule splits allowing the spores to be shaken out by the wind
        Germinating spore produce protonema
        turns into gametophyte
