Transmitting Bits

1. Sending Bits

   • Move bits using copper wires and electricity
   • Different voltages & frequencies are sent to mean 0 or a 1
   • Graphs are used to show how bits are sent

2. Radio Waves

   • Can be changed over time to send data
   • Waves are sent upward to bounce off the ionsphere
     • The ionsphere is one of the layers of Earth's atmosphere
   • Towers send electricity through antennas to create radio waves

3. Ethernet LANs

   • Cables are straight-through to the pinouts so there won't be any problems with traffic
   • Engineers ignore the encoding and think more about the speed
   • Unshielded twisted-pair cables help prevent from electromagnetic interferences

4. Fiber-Optic Cables

   • Support longer cabling distances than copper cables
   • Make it easier for light to flow through to send a 1 or a 0
   • They don't create EMI effects
