How to Use Technology in theClassroom

  1. Technology

    • Is defined as the application of knowledge to the practical aims of human life or to changing and manipulating the human environment.
    • The following five technological tools are must-haves for the classroom of today.
      • The Internet
      • LCD Projector
      • Multimedia
      • Smart Board
      • Ebooks
    • Classroom Technology
      • School-based Technology
        • The most important technology to be used school-wide is for them to have a website. This allows both students and parents to be aware of school functions, projects and other important information
          • Benefits: Parents can also gain access to their children’s grades and homework by registering and setting up a password.
      • Student-based Technology
        • Some schools provide their students with personal digital assistant devices. These PDAs are linked to the teacher’s computer. The teacher can directly list homework assignments, project reminders and test dates for all of her students on the PDA.
          • Benefits: This promotes an opportunity for all students to work.
      • Teacher-based Technology
        • The most basic tools that teachers can use are software computer programs. Projection devices are now quite commonplace in every class throughout many districts.
          • Benefits: This makes lessons funnier than just reading from a textbook.
    • Using current technology
      • Partner with a colleague
      • Attend a session conference, or search on the web for teachers who use them.
      • Find additional supports.
    • Effects of technology in our classrooms and in our students
      • Technology use allows many more students to be actively thinking about information, making choices, and executing skills than is typical in teacher-led lessons.
        • The student is actively making choices about how to generate, obtain, manipulate, or display information.
        • Project-based work and cooperative learning approaches prompt this change in roles
          • Technology-based tasks
