     • allow you to pay a fixed rate by  the hour, with no commitment.
   • Reserved
     • provide you with a capacity reservation, and offer a significant discount on the hourly charge for an instance
     • basically entering a contract for 1 or 3 year term.
   • Spot
     • Enable you to bid a price you want for instance capacity.
   • Dedicated Host
     • Physical EC2 server dedicated for your use.

2. EC2 instance type

   • fight dr mcpx

3. different ways to interface with EC2 programatically

   • for windows putty
   • for mac is SSH

4. EBS

   • allows you to create storage volume and attache them to EC2 instances.
   • create file system on top of theses volume, run database, install applications.
   • Elastic Block Storage
   • EBS volume types
     • General Purpose SSD (GP2) Provisioned IOP SSD(IO1) Throughput Optimized HDD(ST1) Cold HDD(SC1) magnetic (standard)
     • GP2
       • balance price and performance. ratio of 3 IOPS per GB
     • IO1
       • for very high performance application. most costly
       • designed for I/O intense application such as large relational or NoSQL database
       • Use if you need more than 10,000 IOPS
     • ST1
       • used for big data, data warehouse, log processing
       • magnetic disk
       • cannot be a boot volume
     • magnetic
       • lowest cost per gigabyte of all EBS v
     • Cold
       • lowest cost storage for infrequently accessed workloads
       • used for file server
       • cannot be a boot volume
