1. Manipulation

   • In this source, we can observe that the only bright colour is the one of the F, while the background is in shades of grey, this indicates that the social media manipulate people by propaganda into being part of their service. Secondly, the F has only the front side (which is the one everybody sees) in a bright colour, while its side profile is in grey, meaning that social media isn’t what propaganda shows, it can be harming and depressing.

2. Privacy Invasion

   • In the cartoon privacy invasion can be observed with the camera in the F which keeps control among society.

3. Supreme control

   • In 1984 it was big brother, which was a big unescapable figure, but in this cartoon it is the F, which is shown to be supreme because of its huge dimensions compared to the ones of the man hiding from it.

4. Loss of Identity

   • Such as 1984 society, in this cartoon the man is wearing a grey suit which matches the background, meaning he is part of the mass. Also, people couldn’t stand out in 1984, same as this man in the cartoon.

5. Technology

   • In both, 1984 and the cartoon, technology plays a big role in spying and invading people. In 1984, the party used speakers, cameras , telescreens and microphones, while in this cartoon, it is seen that through social media companies and governments take information using technology such as cameras.

6. Fear

   • In 1984, fear lived among society, fear of getting caught or of doing something the party didn’t approve. In this cartoon, we can observe that the man has a facial expression that transmits fear, the same fear that Julia and Winston had. He is looking at the camera with a feared face of getting caught.
