Simple past

1. Expressing past actions, it refers to facts that began in the past and ended in the past. In this case, the actions that have already been concluded.

   • Expressa ações passadas, ou seja, refere-se a fatos que começaram no passado e terminaram no passado. Nesse caso, as ações que já foram concluídas. 

2. Regular verbs

   • ED
     • The "ED" is added at the end of some verb to show that they are in the past.  Ex :Mark watched many episodes of the series yesterday.
     • Words ending in "consonant+Y"
       • In these cases, we remove the "Y" and add the "IED" at the end.  Ex: Melissa studied a lot last Tuesday
       • Words ending in "E"
         • For verbs ending in "E" we add the "D" at the end . Ex: The boy closed his eyes and sleep that night
         • Words ending in "consonant+ vowel+ consonant"
           • For one-syllable verbs, ending in "consonant+ vowel+ Consonant" (CVC), the last letter is folded and we add "ED" at the end. Ex:I stopped smoking 2 months ago 
           • Words ending in "vowel+ y"
             • In case the words end in "vowel+ y" just add the "ed" at the end. Ex: Derek played video game on Saturday night
             • Words ending in "W"
               • For words ending in "w" only the "ed" is added at the end. Ex: Yesterday was showed the work of the boy
   • Negative form
     • Charlie did't buy his new car
     • subject+ didn't+verb+complement
       •  Because of the "didn't" (which already gives the idea of the past) the verb does not change
   • Interrogative form:
     • Did Lexie clean her apartament ?
     • did+subject+verb+complement+?
       •  Because of the "did" (which already gives the idea of the past) the verb does not change
   • Affirmative form
     • Ex: Alex danced with his friends in last friday
     • Subject+Verb+ Complement

3. Irregular verbs

   • for irregular verbs we don't have certain rules, they must be memorized.
   • Positive form
     • Josh drove his new car yesterday
     • Subject+ Verb+ Complement
   • Negative form
     • Danny didn't buy ice cream yesterday
     • Subject+Didn't+Verb+Complement
       •  Because of the "didn't" (which already gives the idea of the past) the verb does not change
   • Interrogative form
     • Did Sabina feel happines by winning the gift?
     • Did+Subject+Verb+Complement
       •  Because of the "did" (which already gives the idea of the past) the verb does not change
