Atoms, Isotopes, Ions and the Periodic Table

1. In the middle of the atom is the nucleus.

   • Protons +charge 1 amu
     • Atomic Number
   • Neutrons 0 charge 1amu
   • Orbiting the nucleus are the electrons- charge

2. The Periodic table tells, the name, symbol and number each of the elements.

   • Periodic Table
     • Atoms

3. Isotopes

   • Contains the same number of protons but different number of neutrons
     • Mas# = # protons+#neutrons

4. Ions

   • Atoms with a positive or negative charge
   • Must have different number of protons and electrons.
